Nel regno di Ubuntu: Linphone 2.10 giovane ma molto promettente software per telefonia internet

Linphone appartiene alla categoria del client VoIP tipo Skype e come tale permette di telefonare (chiamate locali e video) utilizzando Internet.

E' compatibile con il protocollo SIP e supporta numerosi client e gateway che utilizzano lo stesso formato. I codec audio supportati sono Speex, GSM, G711, Ilbc, Theroa, H263-1998, MPEG4 e Snow.

Linphone è un software per telefonia internet abbastanza giovane ma molto promettente. Utilizza il protocollo SIP, e pertanto consente di effettuare telefonate tramite internet ad altre persone che abbiano un software o un apparecchio telefonico dedicato che adottino lo stesso protocollo.

Linphone supporta un'ampia varietà di codec (G711-ulaw, G711-alaw, LPC10-15, GSM e SPEEX) grazie ai quali riesce a garantire una buona qualità del segnale vocale a bitrate estremamente contenute. Il programma offre un'interfaccia grafica (purtroppo solo per Gnome) molto intuitiva e ricca di funzionalità; è comunque disponibile un'interfaccia a riga di comando. Infine, assieme a Linphone viene distribuito Sipomatic, un risponditore automatico che può essere utilizzato come segreteria telefonica o, più semplicemente, per verificare il funzionamento della propria configurazione senza dover effettuare chiamate a terzi.
